TRUMP INADVERTENTLY IMPLIES THAT HE DESERVES THE DEATH PENALTY FOR SEDITION.

By saying that 'seditious' Democrats urging US troops to refuse illegal orders should face death, Trump inadvertently implied that he himself deserves the death penalty for his overt, continuous attempts to subvert our democracy and the rule of law. This is particularly rich for someone who wanted former Vice President Mike Pence hanged for abiding by the Constitution of the United States while encouraging an insurrection against the states.

By declaring that anyone saying that US troops should refuse to execute illegal orders deserves the death penalty, Trump is clearly aligning himself with the likes of Kim Jong Un, Xi Jinping, and Putin, all leaders of totalitarian dictatorships that he admires and seeks to emulate.

So, by now, Trump’s autocratic intentions should be clear to anyone other than his most hardcore supporters. This is a pivotal moment in America’s great democracy experiment that should prompt all Americans to reflect on the type of America they want to live in.

IS THIS WHAT AMERICANS WANT?

The answer is not apparent.

So far, and judging from history, the United States, the self-appointed beacon of democracy, does not have a good record for holding its political leaders to account. At least ten other countries have impeached their president. The latest one, former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, just began serving a 27-year prison sentence for doing precisely what Trump did on January 6th, 2021. Also, recently, the French sent their former president, Nicholas Sarkozy, to jail for illegal presidential campaign financing.

Imagine that!
